How about a little good news before the election?
For those of you who have been following the trials and tribulations of Ichabod Tiberius Carney—my black cat who got in a tussle outside of my house back in June and ended up landing me in court—I have some major news for you.
The court in Denver went on full retreat a couple weeks ago after my lawyer Justie Nichol showed them the mountain of evidence we had accumulated that we believed would clear his name in front of a jury of his peers. (I’m assuming those peers would be other cats).
The prosecutor realized that they were going to have to argue a hopeless case and filed a motion to dismiss the entire proceeding. Because, as they say in their filing:
“The city is unable to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt.”
They’ve sealed the proceedings so it can never come up in a background check, and cleared his good name in the public.
Part of me is a little sad that I won’t get the chance to fly my friend and legal counsel Siddartha Rao from New York to sit in on the trial, or pull up forensic evidence to cast doubt on the exact nature of the lady’s wounds, and even produce full 3-D models of the crime scene to show that the attack happened on my property.
Then again, at least I was able to get a small look into the byzantine nature of the legal process and learned a few valuable lessons along the way.
Thank you to everyone who supported the case along the way, and to everyone who bought T-shirts in the name of the Free Ichabod movement.
To everyone who thought that I was a fool to pursue the case to the maximum extent, all I have to say is this: How could I NOT defend this little guy?
